At Huffman, Kelley, Brock & Gottschalk, LLC our Estate Planning attorneys take a personalized approach with estateeach client to help them meet their individual goals.

Estate planning is an emotional subject; however, having a conversation about estate planning with your loved ones provides an opportunity to protect your assets and your family as well as ensuring that your wishes are executed in the event of death or disability.

Estate planning may have several components:

    • • Will - A will designates the person or persons who will manage the estate after a death and how your estate will be distributed.

    • • Living Will - Living wills may also be referred to as advanced directives. This document informs your family and health care provider of your wishes for medical treatment if you are unable to communicate them for yourself.

    • • Trusts - A trust is a legal agreement in which ownership of assets is transferred to a trustee to maintain until it is relinquished to the beneficiary. A common misconception about a trust is that it is for the wealthy. A trust can be utilized by anyone with minor children or who want to avoid going through probate.

    • • Beneficiary - A beneficiary is named in a trust, will or insurance policy to receive assets named in said document.

    • • Durable Financial Power of Attorney - A DPOA expresses written consent for a person to act on ones behalf in legal affairs and designates persons to make those decisions.

    • • Durable Medical Power of Attorney - A medical Power of Attorney takes effect when one is incapable of speaking for himself or herself.

Knowing where to begin can seem overwhelming. Our attorneys are proficient in planning your estate professionally and respectfully. There are many options in Estate Planning, and we are here to guide you through and grant you peace of mind.
